Hailing from Long Beach, California Cassette Culture formed in early 2015 when high school friends Jacob Mandel and Dylan Knight began to expand on Mandel’s solo songwriting efforts. Soon joined by bassist Gabe Bourdeau (who had played with Mandel and Knight in another band), the group quickly established a unique style. The band was fully completed in mid 2016 with the addition of drummer Evan Schaid who took over for a previous player.
The current line-up consists of Jacob Mandel on vocals, guitars, and synth; drummer Evan Schaid; Dylan Knight on guitar and keyboard, and Gabe Bourdeau on bass.
Mandel, Knight, and Schaid are first-year college students and Bourdeau is completing his senior year of high school.
The band has quickly established itself as a rising young group on both the Southern California and national scene. It has played in prominent venues such as The Whisky, The Maui Sugar Mill, Fingerprints Records, The Tiki Bar in support, headlined at Paladino’s, performed in Las Vegas, and made its debut at West Hollywood’s famed Troubadour on November 5th, 2016.
The band has received sterling reviews by music press including Highwire Daze, has and appeared in other media.
The band is currently working with prominent producers on material for its first full-length album.
